'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles following the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range shot from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess promptly hammered in the rebound before charging toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an incredible turnaround given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. In the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory earned a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's long-range effort from about way out going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right flank after the team changed tactics. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way Orient attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the basics and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then without warning they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It takes a tough attitude and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across two seasons at his former club and has rapidly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford City, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that growth for club and country, performing well for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away games against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was sealed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I knew I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a small coach driven by academy staff, the transport team, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with a teammate, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to spend time with the guys but I'm planning to be the following person to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on London's Central line after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
