Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks his first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on court had led observers to question if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a tight final set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
